Draymond Green reveals he might not return next NBA season
For years, NBA fans, media voices, and even players have tried to predict the downfall of the Golden State Warriors dynasty. Each time, the franchise found a way to regroup, reload, and reassert itself as a contender.
This time, however, the situation feels different.
With head coach Steve Kerr potentially not returning next season, there’s a growing sense that the foundation of the Warriors’ success may finally be shifting. The uncertainty surrounding leadership only adds to the broader questions about the team’s future.
Even Draymond Green appears to recognize what could be coming. Speaking candidly on his podcast, the four-time NBA champion acknowledged the unknowns facing the organization—and didn’t shy away from the possibility that his own time in the Bay Area could be nearing its end.
After more than a decade of dominance, the Warriors may be approaching a turning point that no comeback can delay.
Draymond Green Unsure About His Future in Golden State
Draymond Green isn’t making any firm declarations about his future with the Golden State Warriors—and that uncertainty says a lot about where the franchise stands right now.
Speaking openly, Green admitted he’s facing multiple possibilities as he approaches a key decision point in his contract:
“I have a player option coming up this year, this summer. I don’t know what’s going to happen. What does that look like? Is that an opt-in and finish the contract? Is that an opt-in and get traded? Is that an opt-out and sign a long-term deal? I don’t know what that looks like,” he said.
While the uncertainty is real, Green hasn’t closed the door on staying. He has consistently expressed a desire to spend his entire career in Golden State, but he also understands that these decisions involve more than just personal preference.
The process is only just beginning.
“We obviously haven’t had our conversations yet. I have exit interviews coming up this week, and none of that stuff will get done in an exit interview,” he added.
For now, both Green and the Warriors appear to be in a holding pattern—waiting for clarity in what’s shaping up to be a pivotal offseason for the organization.
Draymond Green Still Delivers—But Big Decisions Loom
Draymond Green may not have filled up the scoring column this season, but his impact was undeniable where it mattered most. He turned back the clock defensively, anchoring the Golden State Warriors with elite intensity—especially down the stretch. His performance in the play-in tournament stood out, including a dominant second-half effort that effectively neutralized Kawhi Leonard.
Of course, Green’s career has never been without controversy. His fiery personality and on-court incidents have followed him over the years. Still, those same traits have also made him the emotional engine of the Warriors’ dynasty—the vocal leader and tone-setter through multiple championship runs.
Now, Golden State faces a difficult balancing act. The front office must weigh Green’s leadership and defensive value against the team’s evolving needs and financial constraints. With Stephen Curry still performing at a high level but nearing the later stages of his career, every decision carries added urgency.
The Warriors don’t have the luxury of waiting. This offseason will require tough, calculated choices—all with the goal of maximizing what remains of Curry’s championship window.
