In a clip from Wave Sports and Entertainment’s Podcast P, Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson was asked about his team trade for Chris Paul. Despite the fact that the Warriors have had multiple disputes with Paul over the years, Thompson is thrilled about what he may contribute to the squad.
“We’re lucky,” Thompson admitted. “He’s one of the greatest players of all time.” He’s among the top 75, and he’s helped every team he’s played for. And as a shooter, I’m quite excited. I just know CP is going to put it exactly here on the seams and set me up nicely. Every night, I’m going to get a couple additional easy buckets. He’s also a winner. I’ve played against him so many times that you can tell how competitive he is.
Every Warriors player, coach, and executive who has spoken out about the move has expressed identical feelings. Golden State clearly believes Paul can provide a dimension to their club that was lacking last season. This will most likely go beyond what he can do on the court, as Paul’s consistent seasoned presence should benefit some of Golden State’s younger players.
Whether he starts or comes off the bench, Paul will see a lot of time with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, which could make for some interesting lineups.
