Anthony Davis Expected to Stay Put as Wizards Reject Trade Talk
Anthony Davis can seemingly be crossed off the list of potential trade candidates this offseason, as the Washington Wizards are reportedly committed to keeping the veteran center.
Speculation intensified over the weekend after rumors connected Davis to the Golden State Warriors in a blockbuster scenario that would have paired him with LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. While the idea generated plenty of buzz, the latest reports suggest Washington has no interest in moving its franchise big man.
NBA insider Marc J. Spears reported that the Wizards are not exploring trade options involving Davis. According to Spears, one league executive noted that general manager Will Dawkins has long been a strong admirer of the 10-time All-Star, making a deal highly unlikely.
Washington only recently acquired Davis before the 2026 NBA trade deadline in a massive three-team, nine-player trade with the Dallas Mavericks. In return, Dallas received a package featuring Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Tyus Jones, Marvin Bagley III and multiple draft picks.
Keeping Davis aligns with the Wizards’ broader vision. The franchise has spent the past year assembling a roster capable of competing now while developing its next generation of stars. Former All-Star Trae Young was also brought in before last season’s trade deadline, giving Washington an experienced backcourt leader to pair with Davis.
The team’s future became even brighter after selecting BYU standout AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. With Young and Davis providing veteran leadership and Dybantsa leading a talented young core, the Wizards appear focused on building a competitive roster rather than dismantling it through another blockbuster trade.
For now, all signs point to Washington entering the upcoming season with Davis remaining a central piece of its plans as the organization looks to blend proven talent with its emerging stars.
