Even if the Golden State Warriors’ 2023–24 season didn’t turn out as planned, it was an unintentional monument to Stephen Curry’s brilliance. Curry continued to be an incredible individual performer and was largely responsible for Golden State’s success in making it into the Play-In Tournament, even though many of the team’s supporting players failed.
Tracy McGrady brought up the fact that they lost to the Sacramento Kings and missed the playoffs in spite of this while talking about the legacy of Curry. Although Curry had an incredible season, in McGrady’s opinion, Curry’s failure to lead the Warriors to the postseason indicates that he isn’t among the all-time greats.

This is a strange position for McGrady to take, considering that Curry received a lot of credit for keeping the Warriors in the running this season. Even though his per game stats (26.4 PPG, 5.1 APG, 4.5 RPG, 45 FG%) weren’t the best they had ever been, opposing defenders were paying closer attention to him than ever before because of his teammates’ difficulties.
However, McGrady felt that Curry didn’t accomplish enough this season. Some all-time greats have overcome more to get their club to the postseason at the very least. The belief that Curry isn’t a top-five player all time because of his inability to do so convinces McGrady soon gained traction on social media.
Curry’s place among the all-time greats of the NBA has been hotly contested for many years. His incredible three-point shooting has undoubtedly had a significant influence on the modernization of basketball, and with four championships under his belt, he is unquestionably one of the league’s greatest victors ever.
However, Curry has always had a lot of support from teammates because he has played with players like Draymond Green and Klay Thompson for his entire career. Not to mention, Curry’s success in winning two of those four titles was greatly aided by the arrival of Kevin Durant. It’s reasonable to wonder if he can succeed on his own, and McGrady thinks this season showed that he was merely not capable of doing it.
Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that this may be a premature conversation because Curry is still building his legacy despite the fact that many fans are still bitter over the Warriors’ difficult season. Though many supporters would disagree with McGrady’s assessment, Curry has limited time left to build on his current success. Therefore, if he hopes to win over more supporters, he will need to return to his winning ways in the upcoming season.
