Charles Barkley would choose 2x NBA Champion over Steph Curry

Stephen Curry, a player with the Golden State Warriors, has solidified his status as one of the best point guards in NBA history. The four-time NBA champion has also won scoring titles twice, been an All-Star ten times, and been the MVP of the NBA Finals once. This is just one of many honors. Curry is possibly the best three-point shooter in league history as well. In addition, he will easily finish his career as the league’s all-time leader in three-pointers made. Charles Barkley, a former MVP and current TNT pundit, would still not pick him over former “Bad Boy” Isiah Thomas despite his excellence.

Barkley declared that he would prefer the Detroit Pistons great to Curry while appearing as a guest on “The Dan Patrick Show.”

“I got nothing but respect for Isiah because like I said, he’s the best little [player] until Steph Curry came along, and I’ll be honest with you, if I was in a game, if I had to choose — and I love Steph Curry and I know people gonna go on the internet because they ain’t got no life — if I had to choose between Steph Curry and Isiah, I’d probably go with Isiah in a scenario. But I love Steph, I love Isiah. But if I had one guy, if I had to choose between those two, I’m not going to ever choose against Isiah.”

Throughout his 13-year NBA career, Thomas developed a respectable résumé. In addition to being a two-time NBA champion, Thomas was also a one-time assists leader, a 12-time All-Star, a five-time All-NBA pick, and an NBA Finals MVP. In addition, “Zeke” was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.

Isiah Thomas Believes Stephen Curry is Not a Point Guard

“On the Golden State Warriors, you are the point guard,” Thomas said to Draymond Green. “You have more assists than Steph. You bring the ball up. You initiate the offense. You set the defense. You run the show. Steph comes off the screens, he catches, and he shoots, and he’s one of the greatest shooters ever.”

Thomas also claimed that Curry attempts to model his style of play after successful shooters such as Reggie Miller and Ray Allen.

“I won a different way,” Thomas said. “As a point guard, I led my team, and I may be the only one who’s done this, as a point guard, I’ve led my team in scoring and assists to back-to-back championships. When I look at Steph, when he talks about the people that he’s emulated, he talks about Reggie Miller. He talks about Ray Allen.”

The Last Word on Isiah Thomas and Stephen Curry

There’s a reason why Thomas is still regarded as one of the best point guards in league history. His ability to pass generally and to make plays is unparalleled. But Curry is also the more accomplished and, in my opinion, more gifted player. Naturally, contrasting two legends who played in different eras is difficult. It’s obvious that “The Round Mound of Rebound” benefits the player he faced directly, but either way, it’s a daring viewpoint.
