Warriors want’ Klay Thompson back for next season

This summer, Klay Thompson will be eligible for unrestricted free agency. Throughout the current season, there has been uncertainty around the future of the seasoned sharpshooter.

The Warriors declined to extend his contract during the season in favor of letting it expire. Because of his erratic performance, there has been some debate over what Thompson’s next deal would include.

However, Mike Dunleavy Jr., President of Basketball Operations at the Warriors, desires that Thompson stay in the Bay Area going ahead. He said this on Thursday at a press conference.

Certainly, we want Klay back first and foremost,” Dunleavy Jr. said. “I expressed that to him yesterday. I think our players have expressed that, our coaches, front office, ownership, everybody wants Klay back. I think he’s still a really good player. I think we have enough good players in our system. We have enough assets to acquire good players. We have the ability to keep getting better.”

Thompson’s floor spacing continues to be a crucial component of the Warriors’ attack scheme. He is one of the league’s top movement shooters.

In addition, he has superior shooting ability while attacking closeouts, and his championship-winning expertise and seasoned leadership are priceless. There’s no doubt that other NBA teams will be interested in signing him in free agency.

Aging is affecting Golden State’s championship core. They are still, nevertheless, among the best in their respective fields. In the upcoming years, the Warriors might contend for another title if they can surround their veterans with quality and depth. Thompson is probably going to be in that rotation.

There’s no doubt that rumors and possible destinations for the seasoned marksman will abound in the upcoming months. Thompson would probably finish his career with the Warriors, a team he has helped win four titles with, if there is a chance to stay with them.
