Steve Kerr releases honest statement after Warriors lose to Spurs

The Golden State Warriors lost their game against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night despite the absence of Steph Curry, especially considering the importance of the outcome.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr discussed the defeat candidly after the game.

“It was tough,” coach Steve Kerr said. “We just never had any traction. I didn’t feel like we had confidence or energy. Their pace and their movement bothered us. And then we had some breakdowns. It just felt like we were never really in the game.”

With Klay Thompson coming off the bench and Steph Curry out of the picture, the Warriors were forced to depend more than ever on their younger players. Steve Kerr is aware that the experience will have its highs and lows. Chris Paul, Brandin Podziemski, Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond Green, and Trayce Jackson-Davis made up his starting lineup.

“We’re playing a lot of young guys,” Kerr said. “We started two of them. This is all part of it. You have to go through multiple seasons to really understand the different games that are going to happen. The different styles. The different emotional swings. All of that has to be experienced by young guys in order to develop and grow and understand how to win. So, yeah. It’s all part of it.”

Growing pains are a wonderful thing for younger players, but the Warriors don’t really allow for much separation. Following their loss to the Spurs last night, Golden State is now 3.5 games behind the Sacramento Kings for the sixth slot and one game behind the Lakers for the ninth spot.
