REPORT: Pacers, Mavericks interested in Andrew Wiggins

The Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers are interested in making a trade for Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Wiggins is available for trade by the Warriors.

Wiggins is shooting 43.7% from the field, 31.1% from beyond the arc, and 71.7% from the free-throw line this season while dishing out 12.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.5 blocks on average. The plus-minus for the Kansas product is -143.

NBA insider Anthony Slater of The Athletic claims that the Warriors can deal Wiggins without needing to include a draft pick. Player-for-player trade bids have been received by Golden State for Wiggins, who is earning $24.3 million this year.

“Wiggins profiles as the most likely Warrior to be dealt,” Slater wrote in his NBA report. “He’s on the first season of a four-year, $109 million extension. The Warriors have fielded player-for-player offers for Wiggins, according to team and league sources. They wouldn’t have to attach a draft pick to get off his deal.”

After Wiggins helped the Warriors defeat the Boston Celtics in six games to win the 2022 NBA championship, the team signed him to a four-year, $109 million contract in October 2022. Golden State is just 21-25 this season after losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals.

This season, the Pacers have already pulled off one major trade: they acquired Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors. In the East, they are ranked sixth.

In the meantime, the Mavericks sit seventh in the Western Conference. With career averages of 18.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Warriors, they have been the team most closely associated with Wiggins.

If Wiggins was acquired by Indiana’s front office, the Pacers would have a “Big 3” consisting of Wiggins, Siakam, and Tyrese Haliburton; if Dallas were to trade for Wiggins, the Mavericks would have a “Big 3” consisting of Wiggins, Luka Doncic, and Kyrie Irving.
