Steph opens up about ‘Complex’ relationship with LeBron James

Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors was asked to discuss his friendship with LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated.

“It’s complex,” Curry said, “Because you go from me playing in a tournament and him coming to watch, to me coming in as a young rookie in the league and him giving me advice on how to get through some of the early struggles that I was going to go through as a player, to the four [NBA] Finals appearances in a row playing against each other, to even last year, five, six, seven years later, playing in the playoffs again. He’s a great dude, great friend, great competitor, all of the above. But it’s amazing to go back and look at where it all started at Ford Field in Detroit during a Sweet 16 game.”

James and Curry have faced off against each other on the grandest stage of the game four times in the NBA Finals and once more in the Western Conference Semi-Finals last year. They even competed against each other in a play-in tournament game in 2021, when both players were attempting to advance their teams to the postseason.

Curry and James have remained friendly throughout the entire ordeal. Curry called it complicated since, although being rivals, they are also close friends.
