Cillian Murphy addresses intimate s*x scenes in ‘Oppenheimer’

Cillian Murphy is talking about his steamy sex scenes with Florence Pugh in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. According to the actor, the moments were “not gratuitous.”

Murphy portrays the title character in the historical epic based on J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who invented the atomic bomb, while Pugh plays Jean Tatlock, a psychiatrist and Communist Party member. While Oppenheimer was married to Katherine (played by Emily Blunt), he was engaged to Tatlock.

“Those explicit situations were written on purpose. As he highlighted the parts that Nolan was “nervous” to direct, he told the Sydney Morning Herald, “He knew that those scenes would garner the movie the rating that it got.

The actor said, “The scenes don’t just exist; they increase the impact of the movie.” “And I believe that it is quite potent when you see it. They are also not unnecessary. They are flawless. And Florence is simply incredible,” he added.

Due to its “rare nudity and sexual content,” the two actors’ intimate sequences earned the film a 15 rating in theaters.

The Peaky Blinders alum continued to sing the independent cinema queen’s praises, praising her for her work in lauded movies like Midsommar and The Wonder.

He added: “I have loved Florence’s work sinceLady Macbeth and I think she’s f***ing phenomenal. She has this presence as a person and on screen that is staggering. The impact she has [in Oppenheimer] for the size of the role, it’s quite devastating.”
