Stephen Curry Earns Finalist Spot for Prestigious Humanitarian Award
Stephen Curry Named Finalist for Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been named a finalist for the prestigious Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award, recognizing athletes who make a significant impact through community service and social leadership.
The award, presented annually at the ESPY Awards, honors individuals whose off-court efforts create meaningful and measurable change in their communities. It celebrates athletes who embody the principles associated with Muhammad Ali, including leadership, conviction, and service.
Curry’s nomination highlights his continued commitment to philanthropy and community development, particularly through his long-running work with the “Eat. Learn. Play.” foundation, which he co-founded with his wife, Ayesha Curry. The organization focuses on addressing childhood hunger, improving literacy rates, and providing safe spaces for children in underserved communities.
Since its launch, the foundation has delivered tens of millions of meals to families in need, invested heavily in literacy programs across Oakland schools, and helped renovate schoolyards and recreational facilities to give children safer environments to learn and play. A key aspect of the initiative is that the Currys personally cover all operational costs, ensuring that public donations go directly toward program services.
The Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award, first introduced in 2015 and renamed in 2017 to honor the boxing legend’s legacy, is one of the most respected honors in sports philanthropy. Previous winners include athletes and organizations recognized for their wide-ranging humanitarian contributions across education, community development, and social justice.
Curry’s recognition adds another dimension to his legacy beyond basketball. While he remains one of the NBA’s most influential players on the court, his work off the floor continues to establish him as one of the league’s most active and impactful community figures.
Winners of the award will be announced during the upcoming ESPY Awards ceremony.
