Stephen Curry joins Kevin Durant and LeBron James on historic NBA list

Stephen Curry has agreed to a one-year contract deal worth $62.6 million, making him the third player in NBA history to make $500 million from his on-court earnings. Alongside LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Curry is one of the select three who have accomplished this significant financial achievement.

After being chosen as the seventh overall choice in the 2009 NBA Draft, Curry signed a four-year, $12.7 million contract with the Warriors. Curry had a $3.96 million club option for the 2012–13 season, which the Warriors exercised. The Warriors also exercised his $3.11 player option prior to the 2011–12 season.

The following year, in 2012, Curry would sign a four-year, $44 million rookie deal that would take effect for the 2013–14 NBA season. This would bring him to 2017, when he signed a five-year, $201.2 million contract, his largest deal to date.

He agreed to a four-year contract extension in 2021, paying him $215.35 million, which would start with the 2022–2023 season. He is presently playing under this contract, which he recently extended. It will take effect prior to the 2026–2027 NBA season.

In NBA history, Curry is arguably one of the most improbable megastars. Since the NBA was dominated by large men who played more interior-oriented games, few predicted that a 6’3″ player with a shooting-based skill set would succeed in the league.

Thanks to Curry’s blueprint for success during his NBA career, three-point shooting became a necessary skill for players, revolutionizing the NBA through his playing style.

Can Curry Win One More NBA Championship With The Warriors?

Curry’s current contract should last him until the Golden State Warriors’ 2026–2027 NBA season. With how poor the club has become since Klay Thompson left and the Warriors missing out on huge names this offseason, there have been some murmurs regarding Curry’s future with the organization.

The Warriors have been steadfast in their belief that they will not allow Curry to leave. The organization is still very much conscious, though, that their team cannot be expected to win an NBA championship in its current configuration. Maybe the team is waiting on a star player to become available before making a move.

To acquire a major star before the playoffs, the Warriors will need to be active in the trade market. Lauri Markkanen, who inked a big five-year, $238 million deal extension with the Jazz, was lost to the Warriors. They will therefore have to wait to find out whether a superstar who is unhappy requests a trade during the season.

With averages of 26.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.5 rebounds, Curry is coming off a strong season. Curry is one of the finest players in the league even if he is past his prime. Players who can support him in his quest for an NBA title should be given the opportunity to play.
