Steph Curry will remain a member of the Golden State Warriors through the 2026–2027 season, according to a one-year contract extension that the team agreed to on Thursday. The agreement is valued at the maximum $62.6 million that Curry was qualified for, according to multiple reports.
Given the present situation of the franchise, many have questioned Curry’s decision to stay with Golden situation; nevertheless, the four-time NBA champion has subsequently stated that his objective is still to win, and he will do so with the only team he has ever known.
“It’s not different from my perspective,” Curry told Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic. “You have an appreciation for the position and the opportunity and the support from people who’ve been with you on the journey. I’ve always said I wanted to play for one team my whole career. So it’s good to get (the extension) question out of the way and give complete focus to basketball and to the season.”
Whilst it is important for Curry to stay with the Warriors, so is success.
“It’s still about winning,” Curry told Thompson, “and taking the steps necessary to give ourselves a chance. The standard hasn’t changed. The expectation hasn’t changed.”
It’s still very early to tell how Golden State will get back into the race. This summer, the franchise was unable to sign an established co-star for Curry and appears unwilling to give up the elements needed to make the acquisition. For the time being, Golden State can feel good about extending their franchise legend, regardless of whether this changes or not.
